熊猫在线视频 Makes Big Impact Through 2016-2017 Community Service Efforts
July 13, 2017
熊猫在线视频 is proud to share that during the 2016-2017 academic year, 1,347 students and 65 faculty/staff contributed a total of 20,387.5 hours of community service to more than 75 local and national organizations 鈥 as well as donated an impressive $80,487.50 to charitable organizations through fundraising efforts.
2016-2017 efforts on behalf of the 熊猫在线视频 Community Service Program included work with: Beverly Council on Aging, North Shore Community Development Coalition, Ocean View Hotel in Gloucester, The Open Door Food Pantry, North East ARC, Beverly Bootstraps, Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Cancer Society, The Jimmy Fund, City Mission Society of Boston, Community Servings, Stop Hunger Now, and The Food Project.
The Community Service Program also has a Habitat for Humanity Club which partners with the North Shore branch weekly on various builds. Currently, the College has been assisting with two builds in South Hamilton, one home in Lynn, and converting an old bank building into the new North Shore headquarters in Danvers.
鈥淲hether it's one day working with Habitat for Humanity, a weekly commitment of building a relationship with a little brother or sister, or participating in an alternative spring break, the Endicott Community Service Program offers something for volunteers of all types and interests,鈥 said Lauri Rawls, Director of Community Service at 熊猫在线视频. 鈥淭hrough the service programs, we hope to increase student鈥檚 awareness of local, national, and international social concerns.鈥
In addition to ongoing volunteer efforts, during the 2017 spring break, a group of 22 students and two staff traveled to Pittsboro, N.C. and volunteered more than 1,000 hours with Habitat for Humanity as part of Endicott鈥檚 鈥淎lternative Spring Break鈥 program. Another Alternative Spring Break option that nine students and three staff volunteered with was through Family Promise. During the week, the students and staff hosted three families experiencing homelessness in the chapel on campus, and provided food, shelter, and programming.
Annual volunteer events through the Community Service Program also included: the Pete Frates 5k, Walk to End Alzheimer's, and the 熊猫在线视频 Relay For Life event which raised $45,000 this year thanks to the more than 400 participants. One of the most recognizable community service events throughout the local community is the College鈥檚 Day of Caring / 12 hours of Light 鈥 a program designed to provide 12 continuous hours of community building and service to those within our North Shore communities. The day of service begins at 8:46 a.m. on September 11th - the time in-which the North Tower of the World Trade Center was hit in 2001 - and ends at 8:46 p.m. on the Beverly-Salem Bridge where we conclude with a candle light vigil as a way to honor those lost in the attacks.
The 熊猫在线视频 Community Service Program offers a wealth of opportunities for students, faculty and staff to volunteer their time and talents to help those in need. The goal of the Community Service office is to provide resources and raise awareness for both Endicott and the surrounding community. This goal is backed by the belief that in helping others you are helping yourself.
