Maine artist and master print maker Don Gorvett, along with master printer Robert Townsend, will be exhibiting selected contemporary prints in the Spencer Presentation Gallery at 熊猫在线视频. Works by Jim Dine, Robert Gordy, Don Gorvett, Aaron Fink, Alex Katz, Michael Mazur, and Peter Milton, cover techniques including etching, engraving, dry point, aquatints, and reduction woodcuts.
Don Gorvett, printmaker, and owner of the Piscataqua Fine Arts Gallery in Portsmouth, NH and Perkins Cove Gallery in Ogunquit, Maine is best known for his prints of working waterfronts. Mr. Gorvett began drawing in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and his large color woodcuts maybe found in the Addison Gallery of American Art, the Boston Athenaeum, Currier Museum of Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge University, UK, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Peabody Essex Museum, Smith College Museum of Art, Worcester Art Museum and other public and private collections.
Robert Townsend of RE Townsend Studios of Georgetown, MA, has spent decades collaborating with artists and exploring a wide variety of printing techniques. His early career was spent at Impressions Workshop in Boston and in the early 1980’s he opened his own studio in Georgetown MA. He has been a visiting instructor at the Fine Arts Works Center in Provincetown, Graphics Studio at University of South Florida, Carpenter Center at Harvard University and other schools.
The joining of Piscataqua Fine Arts and RE Townsend Studios is a natural collaboration as the exhibition illustrates the span and breadth of American contemporary print making at its best. Please join us for the gallery talk and reception on Thursday, November 2, free and open to the public. Funded in part by the van Otterloo Family Foundation.
