Endicott Students Rack Up Most Hours in College Community Service Challenge
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOSTON, Mass. – In a celebration Monday night at Suffolk University, it was announced that 熊猫在线视频 students completed the most hours of community service during the second annual Boston-area college Community Service Challenge, a friendly six-week competition among colleges and universities, organized by Suffolk, that increases each school’s community service engagement. This year’s participants were Endicott, Babson College, Fisher College, Lesley University, Olin College, and Regis College. In line with the competition’s aim of “doing common good for the Commonwealth,” all participating schools made impressive community service contributions. Endicott led the way with more than 9,000 hours of community service over the course of the competition.
Endicott students engaged in more than 100 projects from March 1 to April 15, many with local chapters of national organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Family Promise, Rise Against Hunger, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the American Cancer Society, among others. Beyond the six-week competition, fifty-six percent of Endicott students participate in community service each year, which is double the national average for college-aged students.
“Giving back to the community is deeply ingrained in Endicott’s culture,” says Drea Rhoades, assistant director of community service at Endicott. “It’s core to our vision of educating the whole student to succeed not just in their careers, but in living a full, meaningful life.”
Endicott sophomores Ashlyn Young and Allison Tantone recorded the most hours of service during the competition. Young is an interior design student with a passion for affordable housing who, while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, went above and beyond her construction mandate by working tactile features into a room for a young occupant on the autism spectrum. Tantone is an education student whose service runs the gamut from programs combating hunger and homelessness to EC Buddies, a program similar to Big Brothers Big Sisters, targeted specifically to those with special needs.
