Finding Fenway—And an Internship, Too
When Amanda Fox ’22 arrived at Endicott, she made a list of places she considered “gold star” internship spots. Disney. Hasbro. NBC. Marvel. Pixar. LEGO. And (FSM).
“I come from a family of Red Sox fans and have frequented Boston often over the years,” said Fox, who is from Willington, Conn. “Fenway Park has always held a special spot in my heart.”
Fox, a business marketing major, reached out to contacts at these gold star companies.
“Something I’ve always tried to live by is giving 110 percent,” she explained. “There are little things you can do every day to show your commitment—get in early, stay late, ask coworkers what you can do to help, think about what might need to get done and do it before someone asks. Those kinds of things are little, but they all add up.”
Fox has always been a motivated, busy person—she’ll graduate with her bachelor’s in three years, thanks to college classes in high school, and will spend her fourth year at Endicott pursuing an MBA.
As part of her internship outreach efforts, she connected with some Endicott alumni working for the Red Sox, including Amanda Heglin '06, who she’d met on a 2019 networking trip.
Through Heglin, Fox learned about Fenway Sports Group’s 2021 Emerging Leaders program and applied. After her acceptance, Fox spent the summer on Zoom calls with different professionals in the organization in an informational networking format.
“They know we’re young professionals trying to break into the scene, so they really tried to help us and make it well-rounded,” Fox said.
After hearing from a variety of people—from baseball operations to sales to accountants, and even Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy—Fox gained perspective on how much people’s paths can differ.
“You learn what you like and what you don’t like,” she recalled. “It was amazing at points—how often is it that a busy sports-business executive is going to set aside time for something like that? Not everyone gets to have that kind of opportunity.”
Fox used the Emerging Leaders Program to make a variety of connections, and when she mentioned to the program leader that she wanted to spend her semester at FSM, they created a spot for her. Now, she assists with marketing and content creation endeavors in their Special Events department.
“Every day that I get to go into work it feels like waking up on Christmas morning,” she said “The FSM team is amazing.”
Fox got into marketing early, running a travel blog at the age of 12 that earned her experience in influence work, brand management, photography, graphic design, and content creation.
“Brands would send me products to post about or events to market to my followers,” she shared. “I didn’t realize what I was doing was marketing until someone pointed it out to me—I was just having fun sharing my photos and designs online. I loved finding out that what I was doing in my free time as a hobby could be my full-time job.”
At FSM, Fox’s main project has been the , Boston’s first ever college football bowl game that will be televised on ESPN on December 29.
“My role has been mainly in social and digital marketing, keeping social pages up to date and getting people excited,” she explained. “This is our first time hosting this game, and we know other bowl games are a part of many people’s traditions, so our job is to help make ours a new tradition, too.”
At Endicott, Fox can be found working as a Presidential Ambassador, participating in Mainstage Theatre and Spotlight productions, singing in Endicott Singers/Harmonelle choir, attending LIGHThouse, and working with the Communications & Marketing department.
“If I’ve learned anything from the past couple of years, it’s that you can plan as much as you want and you’re still not going to know what the future looks like,” she said. “I’m open to seeing what happens. I know it will all work out.”
